These simple flatbreads with garlic butter truly are easy to make. The flatbreads themselves only contain four ingredients and are soft, tearable and perfect for sharing.

There’s no need for yeast with this recipe and you only need to do a minimal amount of kneading. Plus they only require 10 minutes of rest before rolling them out. And they puff up beautifully in a frying pan using only baking powder.

Drenched in garlicky herby butter, they’re a perfect side and can be used in your breakfast, lunch or dinner recipes. Top them with eggs, smother in hummus and veggies, wrap up as a shawarma or dip into stews. They’re super versatile!

Now the recipe says 10 but you might only be able to see eight in the photos…

It turns out they’re so good that one or two got lost along the way!

Why make your own simple flatbreads with garlic butter?

95% of the time I’m an advocate of making it fresh yourself rather than picking up a packet from the supermarket. Here’s why I think you should give these flatbreads a go:

  • I don’t think I’ve said this enough, but, they are so easy to make
  • Compared to recipes that require yeast and proving, they’re super quick to make – especially if you have two frying pans on the go!
  • The recipe is easy to scale up and down so you can have as many, or as few as you want
  • While they’re best served straight away while still warm, they also keep well for two to three days wrapped in tin foil in an airtight container
  • They’re a great recipe to make with kids as it doesn’t matter if they’re not perfect. The more rustic the better!

Description

These simple flatbreads are so quick and easy to make. Drenched in garlic butter, they’re amazing for tearing and sharing over breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Flatbreads

  • 300 grams self raising flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 300 grams full fat greek yogurt

Garlic butter

  • 50 grams salted butter
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • Handful of parsley, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Mix together the flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl and then add in the yogurt.
  2. Stir the yogurt into the flour mixture with a fork until it starts to form a dough. Bring together all of the ingredients with your hands and tip out onto a lightly floured surface.
  3. Knead the dough gently for a couple of minutes until it looks smooth and leave aside to rest for 10 minutes, covered with a clean kitchen towel.
  4. Make the garlic butter by melting the butter in a saucepan and once fully melted, add the garlic and parsley and leave over the heat for a further 30 seconds before removing to cool slightly.
  5. Divide the dough into 10 pieces and roll out the first piece with a rolling pin on a lightly floured surface until 5mm thick. Score across the flattened piece of dough with a sharp knife three times in the middle.
  6. Put a dry frying pan over a high heat and once hot, reduce to a medium high heat, place your flatbread in the centre and cook for 90 seconds on one side. Flip and cook for a further 60 seconds on the other side so it puffs up and is golden. While each flatbread is cooking, I like to roll out the next one so it’s ready for the pan and saves counter space!
  7. Once cooked, remove from the pan and brush with garlic butter.
  8. Repeat with the other 9 flatbreads.
